GOVERNANCE - BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Hope Beyond the Streets is governed by a 9-member Board of Directors that brings together clinical expertise, legal and policy knowledge, financial oversight, and lived experience of mental illness.
This balance ensures every decision we make is medically sound, legally compliant, financially responsible, and grounded in the realities of the people we serve.
The Board meets quarterly to review programs, finances, and strategic direction, and works closely with the Executive Director to translate vision into action on the ground.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Dr. Obodai Sai
Founder/President
Dr Obodai Sai ie a retired psychiatrist who has dedicated his life to advancing mental health care.
An Akora and graduate of the University of Ghana Medical School (Class of 1973), he practiced General Adult Psychiatry in Toronto, Canada for many years with a special focus on psychological trauma.
Throughout his career, Dr Sai maintained strong ties with his country of birth, Ghana. During his frequent visits, he became aware of the many individuals in the Greater Accra area living on the streets with untreated mental illness and facing social exclusion.
Drawing on decades of clinical experience- and a deep belief that recovery II possible with the right care and support- Dr Sai retired in January 2024 to devote his time to this pressing need. He went on to found Hope Beyond the Streets, bringing together like-minded individuals to restore dignity and opportunity for vulnerable populations.
Through this work, Dr Sai is committed to helping the organization serve as a “Light to Mental Wellness “, offering hope compassion and pathways to healing.
Ms. Bernice Adjei (Manye Menawala)
Co-founder/Secretary
Former Director General (CEO) Public Sector, Advanced Practice Nurse (APN)and Doctoral Researcher specializing in the optimization of ICT and digital workflows within public sector remote work and healthcare environments. I am a high-impact healthcare leader and a Nurse Educator with a unique ‘scholar-practitioner’ profile, combining the strategic wisdom of former public executive roles with deep clinical expertise in forensic mental health and acute care.
With extensive experience in clinical leadership and higher education, I specialize in the operational and human aspects of remote care delivery. I offer a proven ability to manage complex health systems, ensure high-quality care in virtual environments, and lead multidisciplinary teams with clinical precision and strategic foresight.
I am currently seeking remote mental health roles where I can apply my extensive forensic background and research insights to drive excellence in patient outcomes.”

Angela has a B.A in Communications from University of Windsor in Canada and a Post grad in International Project Management, Humber College specializing with NGOs. In 2011, she traveled to Takoradi, Ghana to work for the YWCA teaching the youth about entrepreneurship. In that same year, she worked in South Africa with the CGE, Commission for Gender Equality dealing with various stakeholders from the South African Government on Gender based violence, women and children’s rights and a focus on HIV/ AIDS. Angela currently spends her time in Canada and Ghana.
Ms Genevieve Solomon
Core Member
Genevieve Solomon is a dedicated and and compassionate Child and Youth Work with over 20 years experience in working with individuals with mental, developmental and behavioural issues.
Proficient in creating meaningful connections developing and implementing tailored support programs, advocating for marginalized communities and collaborating with families and professionals to create safe nurturing environments that enhance emotional and social wellbeing.
Exemplifies the values of empathy, resilience and dedication, making a lasting impact on lives.
Mr. Raphael Tetley
Member/IT
Raphael Tettey is an experienced educator and community leader with over two decades of teaching in the United Kingdom, specialising in Computer Science and Music. He is an active member of the GaDangme Council, contributing to initiatives that empower communities, promote cultural identity, and drive sustainable development.
Raphael is passionate about youth empowerment, leadership, and community transformation, and speaks on bridging heritage with modern progress to create lasting impact.
Mr. Gabriel Teye
Core Member
Gabriel Teye is a registered nurse and public health professional with a background in emergency, critical care, and community health. His experiences have exposed him to the realities of mental health care in both clinical and community settings, shaping his interest in more accessible and compassionate support systems.
He has been involved in community outreach and support initiatives, contributing to efforts that promote wellbeing and care for vulnerable individuals. His approach reflects a growing commitment to extending care beyond traditional hospital settings, particularly through community-based and home-centered support.
Gabriel is part of Hope Beyond the Streets, where he contributes to ongoing efforts to improve access to care and support for individuals experiencing homelessness and mental health challenges.
